The Chicago Bears fourth and finally preseason game is just hours away and I could not be more excited. The last preseason game always seems to get my blood pumped because I know the regular season is just around the corner. I will be interested to see how the Bears decide to manage this game tonight, because typically it is used as a game for backups and players trying to make the roster. I am very curious to see whether the Bears first team offense and defense will take the field at all. With the offense, they have progressively gotten better over each preseason game so I don't think it would hurt if the first team went out for a few series and got some live reps in. On defense, it would be an opportunity for the team to tie any loose end up that still may be lingering around. I am also very anxious to see what rookies are going to step up in hopes of making the team. Will Dane Sanzenbacher shore up a spot on the 53 man roster? (If readers haven't noticed yet, I have very high hopes for this kid because I personally think he is just a great football play. He may not be the biggest, strongest or fastest but he shows heart and I appreciate that.) Will Mario Addison make the plays necessary to make the team with the health of Corey Wootton still up in the air and does Kyle Adams have enough football skill to change positions and still make the team? There are many questions that are still need to be answered before the start of the season and the fourth preseason game usually plays a large factor in making those decisions. I hope to see a well played game from the many trying to make the roster and hope there are no significant injuries.
In other related news, it has surfaced that the Bears are willing to offer running back, Matt Forte, $13-$15 million in guaranteed money on his next contract. Many of us would not pass up the opportunity to make that kind of money, but in this case I feel like it is way to low. Just today, Chris Johnson of the Titans, signed a four year contract worth $53.5 million, with $30 million guaranteed. Am I say that Matt Forte deserves that kind of money... No. However, I feel like Forte is just as important to the Bears and Chris Johnson is to the Titans. I think a fair yet rewarding contract would be in the ranges of $35-$40 for four years with about $17-$20 million guaranteed. The Bears have always prided themselves on taking care of there own, so I think its time for the McCaskey's to take out their checkbook and pay this man like the valuable asset he is. The regular season count down is down to 10 days so until next time, Bear Down Chicago!
