Week 1: Atlanta Falcons

The Chicago Bears first game against the Falcons has come and gone, and the results could not have been any better. The Bears got a win and did so in a very impressive manner. On the offensive side of the ball, there were many things that happened that leave me very optimistic about the season. Jay Cutler looked good, and I mean very good. He looked calm in the pocket, which was a very rare sight last year. He also displayed a good grasp of the offense. He knew the times he should try and force things down the field for the big play and when to check it down and let his play makers go to work. Cutler ended the day with a very good statistical line, going 22 for 32 for 312 yard with two touchdowns and an interception. If he can consistently put numbers like that up, the offense will be able to do some impressive things. Matt Forte also had an exceptional day. He showed the Bears why exactly why they need to extend his contract and pay him like the important play maker he is. He had 158 total yards that comprised of 90 yards receiving with a touchdown and 68 yard rushing. His contribution to the offense is very important and he should be able to consistently put up big numbers. On the other side of the ball, the defense came out and made a statement that they are a force to be reckoned with. The defensive line absolutely owned the Falcons line. Julius Peppers and Henry Melton both had two sacks a piece and looked nearly unstoppable. If there play continues like this, it will make the defense just that much better. Brian Urlacher had another impressive game, recording 10 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He showed all the doubters that he still has plenty left in the tank and looks poised to make another great showing this season. If the defense comes out and plays like this week in and week out, they will be incredibly hard to beat. The game was won impressively and the team showed some very encouraging signs. The Bears next game is on Sunday, September 18 in New Orleans, so until next time Chicago, Bear Down!
