Projection of First String Offense

With the count down to kick off down to five days, I decided to give my opinion on what I believe would make for a good starting offense for the Bears. With so much talk and coverage of the Bears and positions during the preseason, I feel like am able to compile a very respectable first string offense.

Starting Offensive Line
-          Left Tackle : J’Marcus Webb
-          Left Guard :Chris Williams
-          Center : Chris Spencer
-          Right Guard : Roberto Garza
-          Right Tackle : Gabe Carimi

As you can see, the starting offense line is pretty similar to what the Bears depth chart says, with the exception of center and right guard. I personally feel that putting Chris Spencer at center and moving Roberto Garza back to his natural position is best for the line. Chris Spencer would give some size and athleticism to the center position where he will have to deal with players such as B.J. Raji of the Packers, Ndamukong Suh of the Lions and the Williams twins in Minnesota twice each a year. Roberto Garza would move back to right guard where he would be able to solidify the right side of the line and mentor rookie Gabe Carimi.

Starting Skill Positions
-          Quarterback:  Jay Cutler
-          Running Back: Matt Forte, Marian Barber, Khalil Bell
-          Tight End: Kellen Davis
-          Right Wide Receiver: Johnny Knox, Roy Williams
-          Left Wide Receiver: Earl Bennett, Sam Hurd
-          Slot Wide Receiver: Devin Hester, Dane Sanzenbacher

The first three positions listed are exactly how the Bears have them listed on the Depth Chart. The real position I felt that needed to be tinkered with was the wide receiver position. First off, I feel like Johnny Knox deserves to start over Roy Williams. He has showed improvement all preseason and looked great last year as a starter. Opposite of him, I believe that Earl Bennett should be starting. I personally think that he is the best wide receiver on the team and deserves to see the field more. He runs the most consistent routes, has the best hands and most of all is the most trusted by Jay Cutler. With a starting duo of Knox and Bennett, you get a quick, speedy vertical threat in Knox and a consistent, sure handed position receiver in Bennett. When a slot receiver is brought in, I feel like Devin Hester is best suited there. I feel like his quickness and speedy would give defensive backs nightmare and he would be virtually impossible to cover.

A first string defense is sure to come with all the hype building around opening kick off, so until next time, Bear Down Chicago.
